Phycoil Biotechnology Korea (PBK) was founded in Gyeongbuk Biotechnology Research Center.

2013
PBK was recognized by governor of Gyeongbuk province and awarded for best and cutting-edge technology venture in Daegu city.

2014
Completed due diligence with 3 companies in Korea for DHA commercialization.
Secured investment from CKD venture capital.
Took over GreenTech Inc. (supercritical extraction company)

2015
Completed construction of PBK pilot plant in Gongju city Korea.
Signed MOU with Nakdonggang Nationational Institute of Biological Resources.

Management Philosophy

We are striving to develop safe food, pharmaceutical ingredients and innovative new energy source that are free of environmental and chemical contaminants. The source of these wonderful products comes from microalgae, isolated from clean water all over the world.

In 2009, we developed proprietary PSP microalgal cultivation technology platform. With this technology, in 2015, we have produced and commercialized nutraceutical and pharmaceutical grade DHA from a natural microalgal strain.

We will continue to develop products vital for health and welfare of our humanity from microalgae cultivated with our patented technology in most simple and natural way.

A MESSAGE FROM CEO

Chungsoon Im as a Chief Executive Officer, he has focused on building and leading Phycoil Biotechnology International Inc. in USA and Phycoil Biotech Korea. He has secured several financing and business strategic transactions, including CKD and UQI venture capital funds and turn-key platform technology and cell strain licensing agreement with CJ.

He has successfully constructed pilot plant for commercializing high value microalgal products in Gongju city and launched food, health and cosmetic products during the little over 4 years of his business venture in Korea. As a researcher and scientist, he has over 20 years of experience in microalgal research in academia and the industry.

He is an expert in the areas of photosynthesis, algal physiology, algal genetic engineering, and the characterization of genetic pathways involved in the biosynthesis of high value algal materials and bioenergy. He has over 10 patents on microalgae and multiple publications on growth and oil production of microalgae. He received doctorate degree from Brown University.

His Postdoctoral work with Dr. Arthur Grossman a prominent scientist and professor at Carnegie Institution for Science, department of plant biology at Stanford, involved in research on environmental acclimation and biosynthetic processes in microalgae.
